A subscriber recently asked me what’s with the name “BrightForwardLIFE” so I thought I’d share that answer here too.
(If you missed it: BrightForwardLIFE is the name of my other website. Soon I’d like to create a digital magazine with this focus, and a podcast show too. (You can read more about it here. )
I used the words “Bright” and “Forward” together, as I feel the combination of these two words represents both my journey and my vision. (more…)
If you’re a freelancer or entrepreneur working on your own, you probably wish it was easier to bounce ideas around with others and get feedback. While being a solo-preneur has many advantages, one of the drawbacks is that you often don’t have peers for the cross-pollination of ideas and the mutual sharing of knowledge and experience.
Working on my own, this is something I’ve experienced over the years, and so I devised a few novel ways to engage with others for mutual benefit. Today I will share these with you. (more…)
This is a feature article I first wrote for the Life Coaching Inisights website. It is a topic which is close to my heart – the message that the path of spirituality and material engagement are not separate paths. These pursuits are not mututally exclusive. They can overlap perfectly and harmoniously. Here’s how…
Traditionally we are accustomed to seeing the pursuit of success and wealth as completely divergent from the path of self-development and spirituality. Consciously or subconsciously we tend to divide our pursuits into two broad categories: inner development and outer achievement. But when we take a closer look, we see that both pursuits can be aspects of the same path.
My thanks go to Devin Iyer, my friend and erstwhile business partner, who wrote this intriguing article for this week’s Blog post. You can find out more about Devin and how to contact him, at the bottom of the post. (more…)
The concept and phenomenon we call “ownership” has always seemed rather strange to me.
Take land ownership for example: if the earth is about 4.5 billion years old, and you are – say- 50 years old, how can you truly OWN a piece of the earth?! Let me write that slightly differently to show the absurdity of it: how can something which is 50 years old actually possess something which is 4,500,000,000 years old! That would be like a 1 minute old bacterial cell on your fingernail claiming ownership of you! (more…)
There are many ways you could explore and engage your relationship with wealth and abundance. You could earn, spend, save, overspend, be really frugal, donate, you could give away some of your money, win the lottery, or perhaps lose money on a poor investment decision.
Each experience gives you an opportunity to take a deeper look at how you feel and think about money. Some of these experiences can help you realise the nature of your money beliefs and affirm that they may be working well for you. Others may help you realise what attitudes may not be working, and give you the opportunity to change them. (more…)
Many of us think that if we are wanting more, we must necessarily be unhappy with where we are, or we must be trying to escape our current circumstances. Many think that the teaching of deliberate attraction is contrary to the traditional spiritual teaching of contentment.
Yet it is entirely possible to be in full acceptance of our current set of circumstances, yet at the same time to seek to experience more. (more…)
Open your heart to all those around you. By opening your heart to others, you will open your heart to the Divine essence. Your heart contains an intelligence that is profound. It is intimately connected with every other heart. In this sense we are all of one heart. We are One.
Misapprehension of this truth, and coming to believe in our false identities has served to divide us, with this sense of division and separation expressing in untold misery, depression, disease and violence. (more…)
If we are urging first world countries to forgive the debt of poorer third world countries, are we willing to do this on a personal level too?
I believe we should. As above, so below. What works for the macrocosm must work for the microcosm.
Whether your supposed oppressor or aggressor has hurt you with words or in other ways, it helps you more than them to assume a stance of forgiveness. Whether or you let your aggressor off the hook or choose to take the matter to court, it still helps to assume this stance internally. (more…)
One of the words I’ve used on my profile is “Philosopher.” I realise that this is often seen as quite an abstraction, so I’ll use this opportunity to talk about philosophy and its relevance to our modern day lives and world.
What is philosophy anyway?
Well, to begin with a very basic definition, philosophy is the study of the deeper aspects and questions of life like reality, existence, knowledge, values, purpose and existence. (more…)
While chatting with an old friend the other day, she was expressing how wonderful it is to have so much knowledge so readily available to us these days especially pertaining to life and the bigger picture. She was quick to add, though, that this often leads to information overload, and leaves her at a loss of how to ‘connect the dots.’ Almost as a joke, she said she wished there was a ‘précis version’ – all in one page or one paragraph!
I thought this would be an interesting exercise, so here goes: (more…)
